Hillsborough County is projected to grow by 400,000 people over the next 20 years - roughly the equivalent to the city population of Atlanta or Minneapolis. How our community will handle this growth is an important question on the minds of citizens, civic leaders and government officials alike. Where will new residents live? Will our mobility and the ability to conduct our daily lives be better or worse? Will new growth bring positive change to our communities?

The purpose of the MPO Transit Study is to assess transit service needs in Hillsborough County relative to mobility, economic vitality and overall quality of life. The study will articulate a transit vision for Hillsborough County that encompasses a variety of transit technologies serving county destinations and future regional transit connections.

It is intended that the study process be highly collaborative, soliciting the values and opinions of the public, businesses and other interested members of the community who live, work or do business in Hillsborough County. The ensure the transit vision is compatible with the visions and plans of individual communities, the study team will investigate adopted or proposed community development strategies.

Ultimately, the MPO Transit Study will support and facilitate decision-making relative to the update of the Long Range Transportation Plan in 2008. The study's data, analysis and recommendations will also inform local government comprehensive plans and the HART Transit Development Plan.
