"Transit Needs and Opportunities" Map Released

The MPO has looked at existing roadway and CSX rail corridors and compared them with existing population centers and growth areas.  Several types of transit technologies were considered, each of which has typical operating characteristics and land use implications.  A composite map of these potential technologies – including heavy/regional rail, light rail/DMU, and bus rapid transit/premium bus – and their relationship to activity centers is provided in the Transit Needs and Opportunities Map. Alternatives identified in this map will be reviewed over the summer of 2007 for feasibility, order-of-magnitude costs, and anticipated benefits.
