- Tampa Rail Project Environmental Impact Statement — by Scott Schneider — last modified 2007-03-22 12:09
- This multi-year effort lead by HART examined the feasibility of a light rail system in Hillsborough County using CSXT rail lines and new track in other areas. A previous major investment study, “The Mobility Study,” identified a rail system that one day could connect Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough and Polk counties via CSXT lines. The Tampa Rail Project refined the plans for the first phase of this system, examining lines in the most densely populated parts of Hillsborough, The first lines would link Downtown Tampa to the USF area, Hyde Park and the Westshore Business District.

In 2004, an amendment to repeal the 2000 amendment was approved by the voters, resulting in removal of the constitutional mandate. - Pinellas Mobility Initiative (PMI) and Long Range Transportation Plan (2004) — by Scott Schneider — last modified 2007-03-22 12:12
- The Pinellas Mobility Initiative is a transit task force to study ways of enhancing the transportation system in a built-out environment. After several years of research and public outreach, the task force has concluded that an elevated monorail system is the preferred long-term solution. The effort is included examination of the costs, projected ridership, and other requirements for pursuing this solution, while also evaluating other alternatives. Recent related efforts of the PMI include a study of the McMullen-Booth corridor for a potential Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route, a countywide BRT study that is being completed in conjunction with Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA), implementation strategy for the Central Avenue BRT route and on-going efforts to evaluate a potential monorail segment form Downtown Clearwater to Clearwater Beach.
